I do not think there was a moment today when I could have taken a decent photograph. It has been foggy with persistent drizzle and bitterly cold, the kind of day that makes an SAD sufferer run screaming for her hot water bottle and duvet.  So here is a picture from last week of one of my favourite winter plants, cornus alba ‘Sibirica’. Those blood-red stems almost make winter worthwhile. Almost.

But some of the best photos can be taken on cold, foggy, horrible days! Look for something, anything that can catch your eye. Even on the most depressing of days there’s still beauty around you.

I love Dogwood with its exuberant crimson colours, offering a little respite from all the greys.
