spring forward

March 28, 2010

We made the most of the extra light today, walking round Dale Dyke and Strines Reservoir in the late afternoon. Spring has definitely arrived in the Peak District but it is not far advanced and there were plenty of reminders of winter still.

But the air smelt different and the sun was strong on the reservoirs.

We saw our first lambs of the year.

The sun was low as we finished the walk, but we were thrilled to arrive home at 6.30 and find it was still light. Here’s to the long summer evenings.

I am enjoying this seasonal cusp. Springlike one day, and cold the next. After such a cold winter, the shock of too many balmy days might be too much. So here’s to lighter nights, brisk walks and, some time, warmer weather.
