unexpected light

October 25, 2010

Like a lot of people in the UK we’ve been feeling the bite of the recession this week. The economic situation dealt us a particularly nasty blow, but it was not difficult to put it to one side when we headed up to Monsal Head in Derbyshire.

The clocks change next weekend and we wanted to make the most of the longer hours of daylight. Even so, the shadows were long when we set off around 3pm and for a lot of the time we had to walk in shade. Looking skywards, though, we saw many startling bursts of colour and contrast.

Where the sun was on the water, everything seemed drenched in golden light.

Just as we arrived back at the car, it started to pour on the other side of the valley and a smudge of rainbow appeared in the sky.

Beautiful photos! It’s my favorite time of year, and I think that golden light has much to do with it.

P.S. I love your new header!
